ADC participated in a dynamic panel hosted by the Elliott School’s Humanitarian Action Initiative titled “The Future of Aid: Engaging Diasporas in Humanitarian Crisis Response.” Held on March 18 at George Washington University, the event convened diaspora leaders and international development scholars to examine how diaspora-led organizations are filling critical gaps in global aid, particularly amid the ongoing USAID shutdown and broader funding cuts. ADC Founder Jessica Kanya-Ngambi discussed how diaspora networks mobilize resources, respond to crises with cultural relevance, and drive long-term development in their countries of origin. The conversation emphasized the need to center diasporas in future humanitarian frameworks, enhance local capacity, and promote self-reliance as part of a more just and sustainable global aid system.
